Maura Tourian, M.S., CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathologist
Maura received her B.A. in Child Development and Sociology from Connecticut College in New London, CT and her M.S. in Speech Language Pathology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Maura has had 15 years professional experience in clinical and academic settings. Clinically, she has primarily worked with the pediatric population in rehabilitation clinics, schools and in natural settings such as homes and daycare environments. She has had extensive experience in the areas of developmental delays, child language disorders, articulation/phonological disorders, early literacy, and autism spectrum disorders. Academically, Maura has also been a Clinical Instructor at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, MA where she instructed, trained and supervised speech pathology graduate students. With a team of professionals at Children’s Hospital Boston, she developed and implemented a language-based curriculum as well as educational and software materials in partnership with The Monarch School, Shaker Heights, Ohio; a day school for students on the autism spectrum. In addition, Maura has written a teaching guide to accompany Puddingstone Place, a software program targeting cognitive and communicative needs of individuals with hearing loss/cochlear implants, language learning difficulties, word retrieval difficulties, or autism spectrum disorders. Maura has conducted staff trainings, workshops and presentations for students, teachers, daycare personnel and parents on a variety of topics including early language development, Autism Spectrum Disorders, phonological and phonemic awareness, family-focused intervention. Currently, Maura is involved as an Intercoder for a survey research project examining Mothers’ personal experiences and perceptions of medical and therapeutic professionals as related to their child’s autism diagnosis and treatment.
