I am the director of the Wee School in Selma, North Carolina. Kelly has been coming to Wee School for 10 years and I can say that she is one of the best if not the best speech therapist that I have come across in my 17 years of working in childcare. The compassionate way that Kelly works with our children is out of this world. We have had children in our school who can’t pronounce words correctly or don’t understand or comprehend what is being asked of them. But Kelly comes and turns everything around for them. The joy on the child’s face when they get something right and Kelly praises them is priceless! Kelly works hard to make sure that each child achieves the goals they have set before them. We have had several other therapists that want to test the children at our school, but we have consistently turned them away, Kelly provides us with the best speech therapist that we could ask for! It is evident that Kelly loves her job by the way she loves the children she sees…. this is not just her job, it is her passion!
Kelly is a North Carolina native. She received her Bachelor’s degree, as well as her Masters degree in Communication Disorders from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. She has experience providing therapy across diverse environments including clinical settings, adult rehabilitation facilities, public school systems, and private settings. She works with children and families in a variety of areas including autism spectrum disorders, articulation/phonological disorders, Down Syndrome, Kernicterus Disease, Broncio Pulmnary Displasia, DiGeorge Syndrome, pediatric developmental delays, and language delays. Kelly has received specialized training in the LiPS program, the Floortime Method, basic sign language, augmentative communication, and the Picture Exchange System. Kelly is a Hanen® Certified Speech-Language Pathologist who has been trained to provide parent training using Hanen® methods for families of children with speech and language delays. It is Kelly’s belief that in order for a child to communicate to the best of their abilities, a partnership must exist between the child, family, caregivers, therapists, and teachers. Kelly is passionate about her role in both facilitating and serving this partnership to give each child the opportunity to succeed.
She is a member of the American Speech Language Hearing Association, The North Carolina Speech Hearing & Language Association, Johnston County Local Interagency Coordinating Council, and The North Carolina Association of Supervisors in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
