Biography:

Tory grew up in North Carolina, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and a Minor in Spanish with full Disciplinary Honors from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She then moved to Tennessee where she completed her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology at East Tennessee State University (ETSU). Tennessee is also where Tory completed her Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY).

Tory has had significant cultural/language immersion experiences, which have influenced her interests and knowledge regarding multicultural/linguistically diverse populations. Some of these experiences include: Language/Cultural Immersion Study Abroad in Spain, Service-Learning Study Abroad in Costa Rica, an Outreach Trip to Peru, and Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) Fellow Research Grant Participant in Brazil.

Tory has had clinical experiences with both the pediatric and adult populations. Some of these experiences include: bilingual outpatient clinic, TBI/dysphagia patients at the Mountain Home Veteran’s Affairs Hospital, ETSU NAVE ASD Language Center, pediatric hearing impairment speech/language therapy, rehabilitation facility, several school experiences (from kindergarten- middle school age, Comprehensive Developmental Classrooms), and early intervention home visits. Tory’s interest for helping other’s be able to effectively communicate originally stemmed from several years of volunteering with Therapeutic Horseback riding sessions for children with special needs.

Tory was originally licensed by the Tennessee Board of Communications Disorders and Sciences, and is now licensed by the board of North Carolina and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
