Services: Social Skills
Social skills involves a learned set of rules to use for appropriate interactions with peers and other persons. Socialization is much more than verbal communication. It is about nonverbal cues such as facial expressions, eye contact, learning to wait, turn taking, and respecting personal space. Children with developmental delays often need basic tools to help them succeed in their friendships and to communicate effectively in the world around them. Our therapists offer social skills groups to children who may difficulty with the following aspects of social skills:
- Initiating conversation
- Maintaining conversation
- Recognizing their own/others' emotions
- Talking at others rather than with them
- Greeting others appropriately
- Taking turns during conversation
- Using eye contact appropriately
